North Palmyra Trophies tournament returns to St. Petersburg in a new format
The second international exhibition team tournament North Palmyra Trophies to be held on the St. Petersburg’s Arena courts from December, 1-3 2023. The organizer of the event is Formula TX company, which organizes international tennis tournaments ATP St. Petersburg Open and WTA St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy.
The competition will be held in a new format: two teams will meet on the court - the Lions vs the Sphinxes. Each team will consist of three ATP players, three WTA players and a playing captain – tennis world legend. Team members will be represented by Russian and world’s tennis stars. The line-up of participants will be announced soon. Moreover, tennis fans are going to see the best Russian juniors singles tournament. Wimbledon 2023 finalist Yaroslav Demin who currently leads in ITF rankings will take part in the junior tournament.
The tournament starts on Friday, December 1, with junior matches. The official presentation of the teams and the opening ceremony will take place at 18:00. The team tournament matches begin afterwards.
On Saturday, December 2, the junior final will take place, as well as five matches of the team tournament.
On Sunday, December 3, tennis fans will enjoy the junior final, the junior tournament awards ceremony, as well as four matches of the team tournament followed by the awards ceremony and closing show of the tournament.
All matches will be played in two sets with a tie-break. Matches that reach 6-6 in the final set will be decided by a 10-point tie-break.
The first international exhibition team tournament North Palmyra Trophies was held in December 2022. Svetlana Kuznetsova’s team consisting of Evgeny Donskoy and Yulia Putintseva won the first tournament.
Spectators at the Arena will be able to take part in autograph sessions, open press conferences and master classes with tennis stars.
