In a two-hour final, Shadchneva defeated Victoria Milovanova - 7/5, 4/6, 10-3.
The runner-ups know each other very well - they train at the same academy, guided by the same coach, often compete in the same tournaments, and even play (and win!) together in doubles. Before their meeting in Saint Petersburg, the girls faced each other three times in junior tournaments of the International Tennis Federation.
The head-to-head record was 2:1 in favor of Milovanova, but Shadchneva won the last encounter. «We know each other very well», Daria said before the final. «It will be an interesting match, and may the strongest win».
The intensity of the rivalry was evident throughout the entire match. Neither of them wanted to give up even an inch. As a result, the spectators at the KSK ‘Arena’ witnessed a mature and intense game. Milovanova preferred hitting from the baseline, while Shadchneva often approached the net and used drop shots – it worked out brilliantly.
In the first set, Victoria took a 3/0 lead, but Daria not only leveled the score but also secured the set. In the second set, Milovanova led with two breaks – 4/0. Shadchneva attempted to catch up again, reducing the gap to a minimal 4/5, but made an error on her serve, and Victoria won the set. The fate of the championship title was decided in the tiebreak. There, everything worked out for Daria, and she celebrated victory 10-3.
